The Big Elephant In The Room “Unseen Climate Denial” Is Here!
Hello Family!!!
The big elephant in the room has been sighted, guess who’s that? “Unseen Climate Change Denial”. Believe me, it’s everywhere, it’s in our classes, offices and all sorts of red carpets you have heard about, we can not go further unless we reveal the big elephant in the room.
Frankly speaking, it took me a long time to admit that climate change is a scientific challenge that needs a political approach since it involves decision-makers from different political spectrums. It’s my understanding it is a massive challenge to bring such folks together and compel them to have a mutual agreement and execution on the ground. We’re literally sweating, this is not a joke.
I know it’s very controversial because we often see nations coming together, leaders tweeting about climate change and we observe a gazillion of non-profit organizations sharing their incredible stories on how they are supported to tackle this global issue; where is Climate Denial coming from? I will confidently tell you one thing, the Climate Change struggle has become the branding spot where the vast majority come to clean their images and position their profiles but in a real sense, they do not want to do things on the ground. Not all buy the whole package anyway. Their real actions are questionable!
This problem is so deep that it can’t be addressed by hosting conferences and workshops anymore, it’s personal. Very personal. This needs a systematic approach by having very thorough small talks, a root cause analysis has to be done like why the actual work isn’t done like the way is broadcasted and pitched.
Why are the Climate Activists facing a real hard time on the ground whilst everyone seems to agree there is climate change? Why are the climate-smart technology innovators who have proven their concepts and showed their products aren’t amplified yet? If they’re, is there all is?
Nonetheless, the outward climate denials are less powerful than those we can’t see. Hardly to see who is the mastermind, who is blocking things from happening and why? Good question huh?; All these will come to an end if we all agree that there is the “Unseen Climate Denial”, that in the negotiating room there are some folks who strongly disagree and have pledged not to do the work at all.
On the hand, for me, failure to prioritize and plan for climate change mitigation and adaptation within the system deprives an opportunity to do more. It’s quite obvious that so many implementors in the grassroots do not have a favourable atmosphere to create the universe they envision, the process kills their appetite.
Perhaps we have to change the way we all see things and increase the strength of our grit and install the fortitude to see it through that in this process to net-zero transition we will all laugh all the way to the bank. We’ve to kill this syndrome of who shall lose what and who will gain what? Well, the obsessions are mega-weird.
Nevertheless, I am a big believer that having a conversation with the right people at the right time always opens your eyes and fixes the way you see things, This time around I had the singular honour to meet Gerald Kutney, Gerald is a commentator on MSM and social media on the politics of the climate crisis. He has authored the book Carbon Politics and the Failure of the Kyoto Protocol and is currently working on #ClimateBrawl vs. Climate Denial: The Politics of the Climate Crisis. Gerald is also known for having inspired the popular hashtag on Twitter: “#ClimateBrawl.”
He is a climate activist on social media, ranked in the top 50 global influencers in Climate Science & Forecast on Twitter and was the #1 global influencer for “Education & Public Awareness in the #ClimateChange Debate.”
He has a PhD in chemistry and is an elected Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. He was an adjunct professor at the University of Northern British Columbia and taught the graduate course Climate Change & Global Warming. Now living in Ottawa, he has presented several guest lectures at Carleton University on climate change denial.
A staff reporter from The Toronto Star wrote: “Canadian researcher Gerald Kutney, who has wielded his PhD in chemistry like a blinding blade of science in a relentless Twitter campaign against climate denialism.”
In our conversation, I was compelled to ask the following questions;
Many countries haven’t been able to combat Climate change by at least 50% because of the “unseen climate denial” within the governments and key leaders? How can we address this?
Why is there climate denial? Ideology, in particular conservatism, is often a common feature, especially among those that support small government and unfettered capitalism. But what makes climate denial so invasive is propaganda, which can often be traced back to the fossil fuel industry and its supporters. How do we stop this? You cannot easily change a person’s ideology. The focus, then, must be on discrediting the propaganda. Since the propaganda is constant, especially on social media such as Twitter, the challenge must also be constant said, Gerald Kutney.
Combating climate change is a steady and low process, which requires collective efforts. Failure of one part to play its actual role in the ground returns the business as usual. How can we work on this, if one vital part politically denies playing its part? You have identified the major obstacle to moving ahead to stopping the climate crisis — the political climate denier or, as I like to call it, the denial cabal. They are often financially supported by fossil fuel interests. How do we stop them? There is only one way — vote them out. Never, never vote for a climate denier said, Gerald Kutney.
Many deny combat climate change because of the business interest and loss of benefits. Many Governments diplomatically agree to upload renewable projects but fail to address them with the intention to preserve the benefits. How can we tackle this? If you are referring, for example, to the loss of good-paying jobs in the fossil fuel industry that is the role of the government to alleviate. No worker must be left behind during the renewable energy transformation. This is not simply retraining programs, but long-term assistance for those that have lost their jobs because of government policies to combat climate change said, Gerald Kutney.
It is a race, that requires us to run while our eyes are open. It’s the right time for me and you to reveal the big elephant in the room. Please pledge to say no to unseen climate denial, it’s possible and it CAN be done.
Speak to you soon, for now, let us work on revealing“ The Big Elephant ”, IT CAN BE DONE!.
