For the last two decades climate change was defined as a phenomenon that belonged to some individuals with their own personal interests but to-date; climate change is no longer a stress to scientists only but its stressing opportunities for businesses and broadly speaking for the entire economy both at the local, national and global level.

According Deloitte insights, 2019; Climate change can create business risks because companies are exposed to transition risks such as changes in markets, technology and regulation that can increase business costs and direct affecting the asset values. On the other hand climate change can also offer business opportunities by improving resource productivity, creating enough room for innovation and increasing resilience of the supply chains and hence unlocking the new markets. I completely agree, PERIOD!

My argument; how can businessmen respond the climate crisis by neglecting the climate education. Yes, is it because the word climate change was barely spoken in their classrooms? Or maybe they’ve bigger business problems and they don’t want climate change to be one of them?

I’m aware that businesses are challenged to provide services and products with less harmful influence on the climate. If you ask me how can we do it; I have a strong belief that one of the best ways to address this threat is by working closely with the educators; even though the education system in African countries has been contending in a highly competitive manner but ensuring its excellence it is not negotiable and this applies in all levels; pre-primary, primary, secondary and in higher learning institutions.

Believe me or not; lack of education is not the real reason that dims people’s perception and attitude towards their own environment. In my-life I have seen highly educated individuals shrugging-off environment conservation. As I have read carefully what Late Prof. Wangari Maathai said “Education, if it means anything should not take people away from the land, but instill in them even more respect for it, because educated people are in a position to understand what is being lost. The future of the planet concerns all of us and all of us should do what we can to protect it, as I told the foresters, and the women, you don’t need a diploma to plant a tree”.

See now? Nobody needs a diploma to plant a tree. Yes, you literally don’t need college or special classes for you to be able to plant a tree!.

If you think deeply you will realize that we’re highly in need of individuals who can respond the climate crisis by changing business policies, regulations, and market environment to provide new services and products without changing the climate. For I know the molding of such people starts at the beginning when they’re less occupied and less spoiled.

Introducing climate education program to the Village Chairman

From my experience with the community groups I have noticed that there is a very huge gap between public perception about Climate Change and actual fact brought by the scientists; The Majority leave the worry to the minority by thinking that they’re not part of the problem or solution by saying “It’s not my problem, not at all!! How can I understand and solve Climate Change this is political”. Okay fine I hear you; but I am sorry to you that politics define everything and decide for everyone.

I am very confident that schools can be of great help to curb the climate crisis and this is possible by one simple move “1 pupil =1 tree”. Yes, we start at a very tender age, how to dig a hole, plant a tree, water it and watch it grow day by day. In this way, we can focus on absorbing young stars to become part of the effort to find the solutions; the studies presume it as a vanguard for existential threat of our time.

It’s time for African countries to integrate the curriculum to fight the global threats like climate change since it needs an intense academic reasoning because it will produce responsible citizens who think critically on how come up with tangible alternatives in the production line. Yes, because this is the only way we can save ourselves.

In this case the teaching and learning methods in climate change education should not be traditional at all but it should involve activities that will create a bond to their environment. We can create local and regional boot camps, sports and games portraying environment conservation, climate change films in which children can be engage; typically the good use of art. Yes, we need a very different approach.

On contrary, climate change education is likely to make the young generation more aware about the nation’s vulnerability and chances to its survival; this will develop an avenue for them to choose any field in which they can help to tackle climate change in the future, could be direct or indirect. Oh Yes, the part of developing climate smart thinkers inspires me to greatness.

You will be surprised to learn that climate education will serve as a social infrastructure to contribute on sustainable development in developing countries. We’re likely going to fabricate assertive scientists who can mirror climate change to the business arena in a completely different angle.

Balancing climate change with other threats requires a proper strategy that needs a support from the citizens, it is not that easy but it comes as an outcome of climate change education since it helps young people to understand and address the impact of global warming in the business line. However, we can’t build a green economy if the word climate change is casually introduced to young people because Africa is growing and the growth is rapid than we ever imagined and it needs us to act smart and sooner than we thought before it’s too late.

It’s now or never!Lets do this…
